Why it is so misterious? According to official record from Central Bank of Malaysia, it did not had any 1 cent coin issued at 1976, but why it is existed? No one can answer it... it is believed less than mintage 100 pieces existed.

MALAYA & BRITISH BORNEO 1953/1954 10, 20 Cents(2)

The pair of Malaya 1953 10 cents and 1954 20 cents pattern coins struck in silver leave numismatic experts a bit puzzled. These coins are extremely rare and much different in quality than any other coin struck during that area. For years, all standard Malaya coinage was struck in nickel. Why were the Malaya 1953 10 cents and 1954 20 cents pattern coins given a special silver treatment? After much of research, the answer was found in the original British Royal Mint reports. Page 7 of The British Royal Mint Report for 1955 notes: “No coins were struck in London for Malaya during 1955, except 4 sets of proof coins in silver, consisting each of four denominations 50 cents, 20 cents, 10 cents and 5 cents, which were struck for museums in Singapore and Malaya”.

Despite this more than plausible explanation, it is still difficult to confirm that two sets of these coins were struck for a museum in Singapore and two sets for a museum in Malaya. Further, we do not know how these coins were removed from of one of the museums. Only the silver 10 cents and 20 cents denominations have appeared on the market. One pair is purported to have been a part of the legendary collection of King Farouk of Egypt. The pair offered in this auction is in superior condition, preserved with care to show the high-end craftsmanship of the British Royal Mint.

These two silver denominations were previously offered as a pair in Lot 136 of the April 4-5, 1986 Spink - Taisei Singapore auction. They were also presented as individual lots, the 20 cent 1954 Lot 377 and the 10 cent 1953 Lot 379, at the February 20-21, 1992 Spink - Taisei auction.

There is no doubt that these two coins are historical important and exceptional museum presentation quality. The only comparable rarities from Straits Settlements 1/4,1/2,1 cent struck in gold which also owned by king Farouk of Egypt.

This series of coins are not alike to our daily circulation coins, it are proof coins. Proof coinage means special early samples of a coin issue, historically made for checking the dies and for archival purposes, but nowadays often struck specially for coin collectors (numismatists).

Furthermore, Circulation Proof Coin Series, 1981 is rarely be found in numismatic market as Bank Negara Malaysia did not launch it officially at the year 1981. It was believed due to the technical problem of coinage minting which the edge $1 and 50sen coins within the set were not engraved with the term "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA" so BNM had revoked the issuing. Only certain small quantity be leaked out into market caused by unknown factors.

According to the 5th edition of KNBOON catalogue 2010, the book value is estimated RM800. However it is assummed as highly underestimated relatively to the unknown and rare number of sets available. If you see it, grap it fast while it is still cheap!

Coin Design

The design description of the commemorative coins to mark the Centennial the establishment of St.John Ambulance of Malaysia (SJAM) is as follows:

The Obverse Side of the Coin

The obverse of the coin depicts the SJAM's volunteers providing emergency medical assistance to members of the public. The name "St.John Ambulans Malaysia " appears on the upper circumference of the coin, whilst the official motto of SJAM "Perkhidmatan Bagi Manusia" or "Service to Mankind" appears on the lower circumference.

The Reverse Side of the Coin

The reverse depicts the official emblem of SJAM at the centre of the coin. A plant with yellow flowers "St.John's Wort", an herb used for wounds, burns, insect bites and as a treatment for malaria, is depicted encircling the lower half of the emblem. The upper circumference shows the words "Ulang Tahun Ke-100" signifying 100 years of SJAM's existence whilst the words "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA" as the issuing authority appear on the lower circumference. The denomination is reflected on the lower centre of the coin.

Commemorative Coins in Conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Bunga Raya as the National Flower

It will be 50 years since the day the "Bunga Raya" or hibiscus was made the national flower of Malaysia. Despite being glorified as the country's national flower, the hibiscus is gradually losing its 'lustre' among Malaysians as compared to the flower's popularity some decades ago. The national flower of Malaysia is found in abundance throughout the country, and for this very reason, the "Bunga Raya" was chosen to be the national flower in 1960 by Malaysia's first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. There are many varieties of the hibiscus, but the five-petalled Hibiscus rosa sinensis was chosen as the most symbolically relevant for the tag of Malaysia's national flower. The five petals of the "Bunga Raya" symbolise the "Rukunegara" (the Five Principles of Nationhood), while the colour red represents courage. The hibiscus became a national heritage after the National Heritage Department made the announcement on it in 2007.

In conjunction with the celebration, Tuanku Mizan launched a special coin issued by Bank Negara Malaysia with the cooperation of the National Heritage Department

This is the 1st gold proof coin in my collection life and which I succeed to purchase from BNM directly. According to collection news, there were only 14 sets of single gold sets be sold at BNM, Kuala Lumpur, and it is believed that most of gold-sets had been reserved by government as souvenir for foreign VIPs or official occasions. How many you ever seen the RM1000 banknote in your life? The RM1000 banknote was terminated from issuing since the year 1998. Do you have the experience trading with using RM1000 notes at the 90th century?

The following "SA-RIBU" banknote can be said as the most treasury collection in Malaysia Banknotes Series, RM1000 banknotes (the largest face value) at the year 1967!!! ( the 1st banknote designation issued by Bank Negara). Can you imagine how great the value of 1000 ringgit at the time 1967? enough for wedding budget? tripping? or even buy a bungalow?

The another reason of the "SA-RIBU" banknotes below become treasury collection is it is not a circulated banknote, it is SPECIMEN note!! What is specimen note?

"Specimen notes are issued to let other banks, and treasuries know about newly issued notes, that are about to be released. They may released in sets or as individual notes.
Many times theses notes will have all zero serial numbers. 4th series of RM50( signed by Aziz Taha)

This series of RM50 note called as "4th series" and circulated at the year 1981-1983. The previous three series before also in the same designation but signed by different Gabenor or slightly different in designation. The "4th series" can be said as most rarely series among the four series as it is only circulated for 3 years expecially you would like to find up the UNC condition.(UNC means 100% perfect).

My next mission is RM100 note of "4th series" but it worth RM3500++ and very hard be found in market even the EF condition. (EF means near perfect but not 100% perfect). Even can be found, I also should be waited until strike lottery....

It is quite a long time does not shared my collection in blog...

I still remember that these notes was bought in pair at March 2009 with consecutive series number which were 440978 and 440979. The 440978 was owned by Mrs NWC and the latter in owned by me. We bought with a great offer prices which around RM300 pair, that was why we deal with seller without any more negotiation.

This One Dollar note was issued at 1959 with the signature of Malaya First Finance Minister, Tun Lee Hau Shik. At that time, we were using the "region money" means the monetary notes was circulated also at the British Settlement regions which were not independence yet which were Singapore, Sarawak, Sabah and Brunei.

Although these notes bear the date 1 March 1959, they were not released to the public until 1 June 1959. They were printed by Waterlows & Sons, and Thomas De La Rue on paper that incorporated a broken gold security thread on the right and a Malayan tiger's head watermark in centre.

Hong Kong's Standard Chartered Bank new 150-dollar note

On 9 September 2009, Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) began issuing one million 150-dollar (US$19.35) banknotes to commemorate its 150-year anniversary. The commemorative banknotes is legal tender, but was sold at a premium over face value. A single HK$150 note cost HK$280, a pane of four notes costs HK$1,888, and a full sheet of 35 notes is priced at HK$18,888.

Standard Chartered has also selected 100 notes with special lucky serial numbers for public bidding and another 10,000 pieces for which the public can pick a serial number of their choice. There are three categories of lucky number notes, with minimum bid prices of HK$10,000, HK$6,000 and HK$3,000. The "single self-selected serial number" notes will be offered at HK$888 each by lottery. Net proceeds will go to the bank's community foundation in support of local community projects and charities.

The front of the banknote, designed by Austrian graphic designer Henry Steiner, who has designed banknotes for Standard Chartered since 1975, features a satellite image of Victoria Harbour with the lender's corporate blue and green as the main color tones. The reverse side demonstrates the history of Hong Kong through iconic Images of people from all walks of life taking in the view of the Victoria Harbour from the Peak: a policeman, a mother and her chlld in a traditional back carrier, a bird fancier, a worker, a woman with a parasol, a businessman on his mobile phone, and a school boy pointing at a hawk. These Images demonstrate how the people of Hong Kong have contributed to the city's success through the past 150 years.

Today, while I was cleaning my room, I smiled as I was finding this item inside my drawer. It is the souvenir of one of my "friend" while she was went to Thailand last year.When I received this souvenir, I felt very surprising. Do you know why I smile? Because it is not the usual note as you think. It is called "Elephant Dung Paper Notebook".

What is Elephant Dung Paper?

Aiyo, it means the paper of the notebook is made by the elephant shit!!!! Surprise? How can your friend buy the shit for you as souvenir!! Anyway, I am very happy to own this kind of the "unusual souvenir".

You must feel very curious, why the elephant shit can used to be making paper? It is one of the creative product originated from Thailand. Nowadays, the elephant dung paper always used as souvenir for tourism purpose rather than commercial using as this kind of paper is not suitable for writing, but used for art painting is quite good. Sri Langka also quite major in this industry.

You can read the following text, if you really interesting about it.

Elephants excrete as much as 50 per cent of what they eat. That, experts say, is normally between 200kg to 250kg of food a day. Since their diet is all vegetarian, the waste produced is basically raw cellulose, raw material from which paper is made.
In effect, the pachyderms perform the first stage of any paper-making process when they excrete dung, that is getting the fibre. Few accurate estimates are available, but elephant dung makers say they need approximately 15kg of elephant dung to make 500 sheets of thin paper. The texture and colour of the paper depends on the elephant's diet.
First, elephant dung is collected and dried. Then it is washed thoroughly with water and disinfectant so that only the fibre is left. The remaining fibre is carefully sorted to remove all non-dung fibres (which might have stuck to the dung that is often collected from roadsides or reserved forests). After it is sorted, it is boiled for at least four hours in a vat, to ensure the fibres are clean and soft. The manufacturing process thereafter is similar to that of handmade paper. The boiled pulp is then put through pulp beaters. Colours or dyes are added when the pulp is beaten in the beater. Then the pulp is mixed with water, and lifted up on flat sieves, to dry into reams of paper. Once the paper has dried, it is either smoothened by stones or by passing it through a calendering machine to make it smooth and usable.
Elephant dung paper is uniquely textured and has a papyrus-like quality. It can be used to make many different products, such as stationery items, diaries, greeting cards and coasters, in a wide variety of styles and colours. Elephant dung can also be blended with a great variety of fibres and dyes to make it interesting and commercially viable.
Elephants are uniquely bad digesters of food, excreting pretty much half of what they eat (mostly fibre), unchanged. Which is why their dung makes fine paper. Most other grass and straw eaters digest their food better, so the fibre in their dung is not long enough to make good paper.
However, in South Africa, some people have successfully made paper with rhino dung mixed with elephant dung. In addition, Kangaroo poo paper is being made commercially in Australia for a while now. And there are papermakers in parts of North America and Europe experimenting with Reindeer, Donkey and Camel poo.

* Govt to clamp down on the abuses committed by Ah Longs by enforcing Anti-Money Laundering and Anti Terrorism Financing Act 2001. Moneylenders Act 1951 to be also reviewed.

THE PROTON JUMBUCK (Proton Arena), Australia’s cheapest ute, has scored a dismal 1-Star rating after the latest round of ANCAP crash testing.

With more commercial vehicles now achieving 4-Star and 5-Star ratings, (the Mercedes-Benz Vito recently became the first to receive a full 5-Star rating), ANCAP says the results for the low-cost utes are particularly concerning.

“Crash statistics show that occupants of 1 or 2-Stars vehicles have twice the risk of receiving life-threatening injuries in a crash, compared with 4 or 5-Star vehicles - at a time when 4 and 5-Star ratings are becoming increasingly available for new car buyers,” ANCAP Chairman Lauchlan McIntosh said.

“New vehicles that achieve only a 1 or 2-Star ANCAP rating - while meeting the ADRs - are a cause for concern.”

The Proton Jumbuck and both Great Wall utes fared poorly in ANCAP’s testing, with all three experiencing significant loss of cabin integrity during the offset crash test.

The Jumbuck scored just one point out of 16 for the frontal offset crash, while the SA220 and V240 scored 2.32 and 2.36 respectively. Head and leg protection was low for both models.
“The SA220 and the Jumbuck lack airbags and other safety features that are expected as standard equipment by new car buyers,” Mr McIntosh said.
“The V240 has dual airbags but these failed to protect the driver and passenger from injury in our crash tests.” ( it means wheter got airbag or not also is the same, do you trust again the airbag system of Proton?)

Despite the low ratings for the SA220 and V240, Great Wall importer Ateco Automotive is putting a positive spin on the results, saying a 2-Star rating is a good outcome for the Chinese-built utilities.

However, the company also says Great Wall engineers will study the ANCAP test results and work towards improving safety for future products.
“Great Wall takes safety very, very seriously,” Ateco spokesperson Daniel Cotterill said.
“Our technical people from Ateco and the technical people from Great Wall are really head-down working on the information that’s been made available to them, and they are coming back to us very confident that they can make significant advances insofar as safety is concerned.”

These moderate- to large-sized geckos rely on cryptic coloration as they sleep with their heads downward, flattened against tree trunks and adjusting their body coloration to their surroundings. Inactive during the day, Uroplatus geckos move only when disturbed. They respond to prodding with an impressive display of a brightly colored gaping mouth and an erect tail. At night they hunt insects.

Sure you all know this is our new designation of RM50 banknote, however do you know that this designation exists in 3 varieties actually. The 1st and 2nd varieties issued at the year 2007 in order to commemorate our 50th Anniversary of Independence. It also is our 2rd commemorative banknotes in Malaysia money printing record so far ( The first commemorative banknote is Commonwealth Games 1998 http://nobitalam.blogspot.com/2009/08/malaysia-first-polymer-note.html.)

The different of 1st and 2nd series is their margin edge of the notes, the first is called "golden edge series" and latter called "silver edge series". The golden edge series only issued about 20000 pieces which are AA0000001-AA0020000, and silver edge series are start from AA0020001-AA5000000, which around 48000 pieces. Sure the golden edge series is much more higher in market price about RM250-300 and silver edge series around RM55-60.

However, the 3rd series is the circulation banknotes, its designation is similiar with the silver edge series, but without the 50th Independence Logo and "1957-2007" at the bottom of the notes. It is the different of commemorative notes with circulation notes. Nowadays, majority of countries also using such a way to issue the commemorative notes ( the design is the same with current or future circulation banknotes but only add on somethings like logo and make it slightly different), it is because the production cost in designation of new banknotes is great costly, that is no economy value if only issue the commemorative notes with 100% new design.

Do you still remember these 2 pieces of RM20 denomination note? They may always be seen at your childhood? or you had forgotten them already? The RM20 denomination note had become a historical denomination note and do not come out yet in Malaysia money printing history.

However, do you have looked carefully for them? These 2 pcs of RM20 are seem alike but they are great different actually! The 1st series was circulated at the year 1982-1984 which signed by Gabenor Abdul Aziz and the latter was circulated within 1986-1987 which signed by Gabenor Jaafar' Hussein. The main differences of these 2 notes are the watermark, all the Malaya or Malaysia notes before 1986 were used the "tiger mark" as the note watermark. even before and after independence until 1986. Since 1986, the tiger watermark was replaced by the Agung Portrait Watermark and is using until nowadays. (However, note watermark only can be seen through the light, which cannot be shown in the diagram)

Another great difference among of them is the Agung Expression, look at it yourself! haha

However, I prefer the 1982-1984 series than 1986-1987, how about you?

In order to prove that it is the fake, let me show you one of the "treasury collection", 50 sen proof coin as reference to illustrate the pro and cons among of then. Proof coin is the special made coin that are very detailed in every part of the coin and usually made by precious metal such as copper, silver or gold. At the ancient time proof coin was used by the bank counter to check the geniality of the coin as last time 20 sen also was consider very valuable. However, nowadays the proof coin more to just the collection of the collector rather than checking purpose as coin is less value and replaced by the machine to do the identification job.

You should know that all the coin actually is molded by same designed mold. However, our Malaysia coin factory also has his own problem in molding the coin before that especially at the year 2000-2002 , you will find that the coin actually is a little bit different in cutting and appearances as usual, someone said that it was because of the Perkilangan Syling Malaysia facing the technical problem and subcontract the project to other country. He was known as Tree Man in local, with wood-like branches growing off his hands and feets, rendering him unable to perform daily routine. His only income is to be somewhat like in a circus, standing in a ring of crowd, parading in front of a paying audience alongside victims of other peculiar diseases, or you can call that freak-show.

The Tree Man, Dede get this weird illness after he was wounded at his knee at his youth. After suffocating like a freak for more than 20 years, he received treatment offer from Dr. Anthony Gaspari of the University of Maryland, a dermalogist. After testing samples of the lesions and Dede's blood, Dr Anthony Gaspari concluded that his affliction is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a fairly common infection that usually causes small warts to develop on sufferers.

Dede is currently under treatment and recovering.

A giant plant that can gobble up bugs and even rodents has been discovered in Southeast Asia.The carnivorous plant (nepenthes attenboroughii) was found by researchers atop Mt. Victoria, a remote mountain in Palawan, Philippines. The research team, led by Stewart McPherson of Red Fern Natural History Productions, had learned of the plant in 2000 after a group of Christian missionaries stumbled upon it while trekking up a remote mountain and reported it to a local newspaper.

The discovery, announced last week, was detailed in the Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society.

The pitcher plant is the world's second largest and can grow to more than 4 feet tall, with a pitcher-shaped structure filled with liquid. The plant secretes nectar around its mouth to lure rats, insects and other prey into its trap. Once an animal has fallen in, enzymes and acids in the fluid break down the carcass of the drowned victim.

"All carnivorous plants have evolved to catch insects but the biggest ones, such as this one, can eat rats and frogs," McPherson told LiveScience. "It's truly remarkable that a plant this big has been undiscovered for so long."

The world's largest pitcher plant (nepenthes rajah) was discovered in 1858 by British naturalist Hugh Low in Borneo. The plant's rat-eating habit was confirmed four years later when his colleague Spenser St. John found a drowned rat inside one of the specimens.

Though some have approached McPherson to ask about the likelihood of cultivating the monster plants as mouse traps for rodent-infested regions like New York City, the botanist (who also happens to specialize in pitcher plants) says he finds the idea "a bit far-fetched."

"Mice and rats are attracted to the sweet nectar of the plant, but it only catches them occasionally," says McPherson. "It just isn't practical. There will be too many mice for the plant to catch anyways."

As conclusion, hey boy beware yourself when tracking in the jungle especially your "kukubird", don't urine in the jungle!!haha

Have you ever seen or used this RM50 denomination polymer note before? Maybe you will ask,our first polymer note is not the RM5 denomination? The answer is No!!

Furthermore, is that this note can be used? Yes!! It is the legal tender note issued by Bank Negara, it just up to whether you are willing or not! If you willing to do so, surely the person who receive this note must be very happy! At that period, this note was sold with the price RM80 (exclusive of the numismatic value and inflation), if you treat it as value of RM50, then you are the most stupid in country...

Malaysia is the 5th country in South East Asia that issued the polymer note. Commemorative Note issuing is very rarely in Malaysia money printing history. So far, it only happened two times since the independence. The first is as mentioned, the second is the 50th year of independence celebration. In other words, commemorative note only issued for the high memorial value event in our country. Even at that year of 1998, commemorative note issued for memorial of sport event also quite rarely in the world. record, sure now is very common!

The following is the statement of Bank Negara about it. This limited edition of RM50 Commemorative Note was issued by Bank Negara Malaysia in co-operation with Sukom Ninety Eight Berhad on 1st June 1998 to commemorate the Kuala Lumpur '98 XVI Commonwealth Games. It was the first polymer banknote issued in Malaysia.

THE FRONT features the portrait of the first Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King of Malaysia) on the right and the Kuala Lumpur city skyline with prominent landmarks in the centre. She is my niece, called Chong Wen Xuan, 5 years old. She always called herself as "Xuan Xuan Girl". She is a very naughty little girl that always running here running there at my home. My dad and mum very sayang her, always treat her like pearl on hand. When she meets the stranger, then she will be a very shy girl and uses her two palms to cover the face. However, she is very expertises in "teh"(buat manja) my dad, mum and sisters. Her most favourite food is "fun fries", however start from today, i decide do not let her to eat anymore her favourite food, KFC, Pizza, roti canai.... and she had undergone series of rigorous ans strict training!!

why? because yesterday was her kindergarten sport day, her group was the last group and loser in the game!! aiya, manyak mempersiasuikan uncle-nya, Nobita. Since her uncle was the sporty person,sporty body line and cutting and even the "school sport team" in the school before, how can her niece like that!! (hopefully my ex-schoolmate do not read to this post, hahah ) .

Finally, i had decided.....

i decide to keep fit her body size, just let her to eat the energy bar and run about 5km per day!!

The Royal Malaysian Navy has progressed extensively since its establishment in 1934, before the outbreak of World War II. In August 1952, Queen Elizabeth II, bestowed the "Royal" title which was "Royal Malayan Navy" to the Malayan Naval Force in recognition of the sterling service in action during the Malayan Emergency.

The naval force which then began with wooden ship, given by the British Government. At the year 2009, Malaysia owned the two first submarine which are called KD Tunku Abdul Rahman and KD Tun Abdul Razak (the latter expected come at 2010) , even military submarine ownership is very common for the other countries like Indonesia and Singapore for long time ago, but Malaysian Government still very proud for the ownership, never mind as Malaysian citizens, we should “shiok bersama-sama”.

In order to celebration of our submarines ownerships and also the conjunctioon of 75th Anniversary of Royal Malaysian Navy, Bank Negara Malaysia was issued the commemorative coin to mark this "large event".

If you are about 20 years above, these 2 pieces of RM5 ringgit denomination must not strange for you. However, do you know RM 5 actually has 2 different designs existed in the market before?

The main different among these 2 notes are the flagpole, the Diagram 1 shows the beam flagpole and Diagram 2 shows the cross flagpole. It is the "design error" that cross flagpole is wrong, if compared to the real situation at that time(official statement of Bank Negara) . Some of the collectors also viewed that it may be due to the religious factor that conflicted with Islam.

It is only happened once in Malaysia Banknotes printing history.

The answer is "The Commemorative Proof Coin of Rancangan Malaysia Ke-9". This commemorative was issued by Bank Negara at the year 2005 in conjunction the launching of Rancangan Malaysia Ke-9 by Abdullah Badawi.

The following coin I owned as the picture below was made by Stering Silver 92.5% with the denomination RM10 and limited mintage. This is the only coin with the portrait of our 5th Primer Minister.

Before World War II, The Malay States were the world's largest producer of natural rubber. In an effort to increase the world price of rubber, restrictions were placed on the export of rubber. Rubber growers were issued Rubber Export Coupons based on the size their rubber plantation and the age of their trees. The coupons had to be turned in when the rubber was exported. Many small producers found it easier and more profitable to sell or trade their rubber coupons than to actually harvest and sell their quota of rubber it is because the rubber farmers only can sell their rubber based on the coupon's budget they had, since all the people also wanted to own the coupons, the coupon be valuable papers. Pees could be exchanged for silver coins, so unscrupulous businessmen ordered porcelain tokens from China at a discount.
